Norwegian distribution: The species is known from rather few localities in the continental part of the upper valley of southeastern Norway and from a few, scattered localities in North Norway. In Sweden it is rather common on Öland and Gotland, and very rare in Skåne and Västergötland. - Counties:: Op, No-Fi. - Vegetation regions: Southern boreal to low alpine. - Altitude: 450 - 1150 m

World distribution: Squamarina lentigera is a widespread species in the northern hemisphere, occurring in more or less dry areas of Europe, North Africa, Asia, and North America.

Ecology: In Norway, the species occurs on calciferous soil or in soil-filled fissures of calciferous schist. The sites are in dry, sun-exposed, south- to west-facing slopes.

Threats: Some sites may be threatened by trampling by cattle and sheep.

Status: The species is rare at all visited sites.

Notes: Some specimens, especially those from Finnmark, resemble the central European Squamarina nivalis; this taxon is here not regarded as distinct..
