Wilhelm Fritz Mattick (1901 - 1984), professor in Berlin, built a lichen literature card index which has been databased and improved by Peter Scholz and Harrie Sipman. It covers the period 1875 - 1950, and currently comprises some 6000 records. A comparison with literature lists suggests that some 90% of the more relevant lichen literature from that period is included. There were originally no keywords or abstracts. Harrie has added a limited set of keywords, which will make the retrieval of non-English texts more easy. Abstracts were added when the publications have been sighted.
Harrie and Peter later added some 3000 records of older literature, the oldest being from 1536.
The original database is maintained on a PC by Harrie Sipman. The web version is a copy which will be updated from Harrie's original database from time to time.
