The project started in 1992, and is partly funded by the Norwegian Directorate of Nature Management. It is lead by Tor Tønsberg (University of Bergen); the other members of the board are Yngvar Gauslaa (Norwegian Agricultural College), Reidar Haugan (University of Oslo), Håkon Holien (University of Trondheim), and Einar Timdal (University of Oslo). Our work is based on study of herbarium material, literature, and field work in known localities. By June 1994, about 1000 localities were visited, a number only possible through the help of many amateurs.
Our first report, The threatened macrolichens of Norway - 1995, is published in Sommerfeltia 23: 1-258 (1996). The fact-sheets and maps presented here are extracts from the report, but may be updated and somewhat deviating from the published version. The data in the locality lists below are not updated, however. For recently updated information from the herbaria BG, O, and UPS, and from our field note registration forms, see The Norwegian Lichen Database. The more or less outdated lists below are still presented because they include data from other herbaria and literature not found in the database.
