Herniaria glabra L., Smooth Rupturewort, in Norway.

In Norway Herniaria glabra L. is reported from several sites along the coastline from Stavanger to both sides of the Oslofjord. The first records of this species are dated 1826 from Vallø near Tønsberg and Akerselva in Oslo. Much of the collected material is very old, but some of the old and often very inexactly located sites have since been rediscovered. New finds are made during the last ten years at several sites in Østfold, Vestfold and Telemark counties. The authors conclude that most of the sites are due to ballast soil brought to Norway by sailing vessels during a period from early in the 19th century, or maybe even earlier, to about 1918, and that many of the locations are of secondary character. They also discuss the possibility that some of the locations may be spontaneous, especially those in Larvik (Brunlanes), Horten (Borrevann), and Hvaler (Singløya).
