Time to wake up, Sleeping Beauty!

National herbaria house a large amount of geographical and temporal information on a country’s biodiversity. The taxonomic expertise linked to the collections ensures that a large part of the supplied information holds a high quality standard. Unfortunately, most of the herbaria data are not available to a wide range of potential users. When it comes to land management, this may hamper proper conservation measures being taken when management plans are developed. The newly-started Museum project in Norway, where the Botanical Museum, University of Oslo, participates with two subprojects, aims to digitalize the University museums’ data and put them to the society’s service.
