New localities of Asplenium scolopendrium and Asplenium marinum in Øygarden and Fjell municipalities, Hordaland county, W. Norway

Asplenium scolopendrium and Asplenium marinum are rare oceanic species known from only a few localities on the southern and western coasts of Norway. They are both on «The red list» as vulnerable, but not extinction-threatened species. During the last few years, several new localities have been found in Øygarden municipality. Regarding Asplenium marinum, the first detection was made in 1985, and 6 additional localities have been found during the last 2 years.
Three localities of Asplenium scolopendrium has been found since 1993; the later one of these in 1998, with A. marinum as a coinhabitant in the same habitat and locality. These newly detected localities of A. marinum and A. scolopendrium make Øygarden kommune one of the main areas of distribution of these two rare ferns. In our community in general, as well as in Øygarden municipality, there is a continuously increasing demand for nature areas to different kinds of human activity, making local and regional registrations of biodiversity including flora, increasingly more important.
