Abstract: 4 figures. 1 table. [Using Cladonia amaurocraea, Umbilicaria pensylvanica and Peltigera canina the authors show "...that the mechanisms of 90Sr absorption by lichens from water solutions are primarily based on physiochemical sorption whereas a greater role is played by physio-biochemical processes related to metabolic plant activity in the absorption of 137Cs. In this case, both radionuclides are retained in lichens in a relatively mobile ion-exchange form." Translation by Consultants Bureau, New York. Original article published in Ekologiya 10(1): 94-97.]
