Bednar, TW/ Holm-Hansen, O 1964: Biotin liberation by the lichen alga Coccomyxa sp. and by Chlorella pyrenoidosa. - Plant & Cell Physiol.5: 297-303. [RLL List # 61 / Rec.# 1667] Keywords: BIOTIN/ ALGAE/ PHYCOBIONT/ COCCOMYXA/ PELTIGERA APHTHOSA/ VITAMINS
Abstract: 3 tab. ["It is of interest that Coccomyxa, the major algal symbiont of Peltigera aphthosa, liberates about 16 times as much biotin into the medium as does Chlorella pyrenoidosa, an alga not known as a lichen component.... As this vitamin is required by the fungal component of P. aphthosa, the release of free biotin by the alga may be essential for continued growth of the thallus."]
