Bibinger, H 1970: Soziologische Gliederung der bartflechtenreichen Epiphytenvereine des Südschwarzwaldes. - Herzogia 2: 1-24. [RLL List # 78 / Rec.# 1939]
Keywords: EPIPHYTES/ BLACK FOREST/ GERMANY/ KEY/ USNEA/ PHYTOSOCIOLOGY/ COMMUNITY ECOLOGY
Abstract: Mainly because of the systematical difficulties of the genus Usnea the epiphyte groups rich in Usnea have been considered very scarcely or not at all. Thes paper represents the outline of a sociological formation of the epiphytic Usnea, limited to the southern part of the Black Forest and the adjoining Wutachschlucht. In this area 5 unions can be distinguished, which have been found either locally separated or at different phorophytes. 1. Union: The Usneetum dasypogae with 3 subdivisions. This union is to be found at the trunks of all forest trees in climatically favourable areas. 2. Union: The Usneetum silesiaceae with 3 subdivisions as well. This union prefers clearly deciduous trees, which has probably to be attributed to the higher pH demands of the most importants species. 3. Union: The Usneetum florido-neglectae. This Union is limited to the tops of widedomed deciduous trees and is almost uniformly distributed in the southern part of the Black Forest. The union is probably photophil and only moderately acidophil. 4. Union: Usneetum capillaris. The union is to be found in the same area as the Usneetum dasypogae yet prefers branches and twigs of conifers. 5. Union: Letharietum divaricatae. This union replaces the Usneetum capillaris in the valleys of the southeastern Black Forest. 1 tab. [Includes a key to 42 species of Usnea.]
