Abstract: 4 figures. 2 tables. ["All the results presented clearly demonstrate that below the lichen crust, the minerals in a serpentinite rock, particularly the fibrous magnesium silicate, chrysotile, are being vigorously decomposed. There seems to be little doubt that, in this case, the active agent is the oxalic acid presumably being secreted by the mycobiont of Lecanora atra." Study used both x-ray diffraction and scanning electron microscopy techniques.]
