Abstract: 7 fig. 1 tab. ["Transmittance of the upper cortex for photosynthetically active radiation was measured in 9 different lichen species from 12 different sites. The sampling locations were selected to cover highly contrasting light climates and ranged from the rainforest to the desert. Mean cortical transmittances between 88 and 45% were measured, with an obvious trend for decreasing transmittance with increasing habitat irradiation."]
