Abstract: 1 table. [Color reactions with 41 lichen compounds are listed. The technique involves 2 sprayed solutions. No heating is required. Solution 1 (0.1 g MBTH in 10 ml water diluted to 100 ml with methanol) gives UV+ yellow spots with compounds with an aldehyde group and an O-hydroxy group. Solution 2 (4 volumes of 0.5% potassium ferricyanide solution with one volume of 5N NaOH) gives orange, orange-red, red, red-brown or violet colored spots on a pale yellow background for compounds usually with a free position para to a phenolic hydroxy group.]
