Abstract: 29 figures. 5 tables. [Detailed, monthly study of a single population from an island on the northern coast of the Netherlands. The development of the fruit bodies could be divided into five stages. Development takes two to four months and begins in late summer. Once a branch has begun to develop fruit bodies, almost all branch tips will develop the fruit bodies over the course of the winter. The decisive factor for induction of fruit bodies is the number of days in the month with very high atmospheric humidity. When fruit bodies are produced, the thallus becomes highly branched, no additional lateral branches are formed, and the individuals eventually die off.]
