Abstract: 12 figures. [Review of the concepts of genera in the saxicolous, lecideoid lichens, especially in the Southern Hemisphere. Discussion includes evaluation of spore characters, excipulum types, neglected taxonomic characters, and new characteristics. The geographical distribution of genera in the Antarctic region is also discussed. "Endemism is much overrated, and the occurrence of widespread (bipolar) taxa much underestimated in the saxicolous lecideoid lichens of the Antarctic Floral region."]
