Stellaria fennica (Murb.) Perfil. i Norge. Blyttia 58: 111-113.
Stellaria fennica (Murb.) Perfil. found in Norway.
Stellaria fennica was found as new to Norway in N Norway: Finnmark: Vadsø, in 1980 by R. Elven & V. Johansen, but was first identified as such by Dr. A. Kurtto, Helsinki, in the 1990ies. The site was revisited in 1997 and the ecological context noted. At present, the plant grows at a now abandoned camping site, mainly along a ditch in an old brook run, in marshy vegetation with a species composition similar to its native sites in Finland. The occurrence is small and very vulnerable. The site is 210-220 km from the nearest known occurrence in N Finland but closer (110-120 km) to occurrences in Russia, on Rybachi Poluostrov and on the Russian side of the Pasvik valley. The Vadsø occurrence may be native, but an alternative hypothesis is introduction by Finnish sports fishermen favouring the Vadsø area and previously often using this camping site.
